Using Your Fan and Air Conditioner in Naples

The weather is finally getting warmer and soon you could have to change over to your air conditioner. Along with arranging your annual air conditioner service with the experts at Speedy Air Conditioning, there are a number of other items you can do to keep comfortable and save money this month.

During the in-between season in Naples, those far too few spring days, you probably use ceiling fans to keep cozy. Did you know that using your ceiling fan along with your air conditioner may not only keep you more comfortable during the warmer days, but also save you on your bills? In order to do that you have to ensure you’re using ceiling fans and your air conditioning as you should be. Here’s a couple things to keep in mind:

Raise Your Thermostat

This is where the cost savings can potentially come in. If you aren’t raising your thermostat you won’t be saving any money. Raising your thermostat by a few degrees, in addition to running your ceiling fan, shouldn’t change your comfort level that much. For every degree you raise your temperature, you’re decreasing the period of the “on” cycle of your air conditioner.

Adjust Air Direction

Ceiling fans have a clockwise and counterclockwise setting to adjust dependent on the season. During the warmer months you’ll want to be sure the air is blowing down. You can stand underneath the fan to see if you feel a breeze. If you don’t, switch the direction. Ceiling fans do not actually cool your air, but they make you feel cooler. It’s the wind chill effect. You’ll feel cooler than the temperature shown on the thermostat.

Turn Off Fan When You’re Not There

Treat your ceiling fan like you do lights, turn it off when leaving a room. If no one is in the room to benefit from the wind chill that a fan provides you’re wasting energy by using your fan. Don’t forget, a fan doesn’t actually cool your air, it just moves your air.
